Sitting the month. orientating to the first forty days after birth.

the significance of post-partum

The work I have been engaged in alongside my personal experience of motherhood has brought me to work with the post-partum time with an adjusted lens. The post-partum time is such a significant time. Not only in Chinese Medicine but across cultures. It is marked as time for recuperation in order that we not only heal well from birth but also take care of any other underlying imbalances that this time of readiness-to-change can also enable.

It is also a time where we meet vulnerability and power in equal measure. Where we are given an opportunity to come into an embodied experience and work through it led by instinct.

what is Sitting the month?

In Chinese Medicine, sitting the month refers to the time spent recuperating following giving birth. This period of time is traditionally a forty day period within which it is understood that we are able to not only enable healing for the body-mind post partum, but as a window of time to meet the patterns and presentations that are underlying in our system already. It is a time for simplicity. For change, system renewal and restoration.

Why would i prepare for this time?

This period of time isn’t just about how we heal and recover after birth. It is a time that marks the beginning of one of the most significant relationships that we will ever be in, in our lifetime. It is a time within which our greatest vulnerability and depth of strength coexist and reveal themselves. How can we allow and encourage the coexistence of these experiences and arrive into parenthood having dropped into a state that feels most authentic and true for ourselves?

Before we enter into parenthood, noticing where we resource well and regulate ourselves is significant as we prepare to spend our start and continuation to parenthood providing a resource for and regulation to our new child / children.

One to One Fourth Trimester preparation

This work is significant. To give ourselves time to prepare for parenthood - just like we do for birth is paramount. For us to look at not only the first forty days and planning this time so that our recovery can be given really good support but for us to look at what we bring with us to motherhood.. from our heritage, from our body and in our minds.

I offer one to one fourth trimester preparation. These sessions can take place in person or via zoom. They will focus on you as you are during pregnancy and look at preparing you with depth for your post partum period.
