I didn't say yes ....but I didn't say no.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have you been in a situation where you didn't say yes to something but you also didn't say no?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It is something that we can come up against in a variety of contexts. Work, the doctor's surgery, a yoga class, dating, sex to name a few.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
What is our understanding of consent?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Consent is defined in the Oxford Languages dictionary as 'permission for something to happen or agreement to do something'.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The dominant narrative about consent is that it is something that we give verbally. Even the word itself denotes that something is to be given. When we say yes and no there is always a spectrum. Do you feel that you have a spectrum in your YES and your NO? Does consent come from your heart, your head or your body?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In the context of pregnancy, birth and parenthood, feeling into our center can support us in navigating our own spectrum of yes and no. It also guides us towards what feels good.
